Hello we are Evan and Cecilia and in this website we will be demonstrating how oysters are beneficial to New York City harbors.

Oysters have historically been a staple of New York City. Before the arrival of colonizers Native Americans in the area harvested them frequently and even after the takeover of the area by Europeans, oysters remained a commonly eaten food.

However, as the population and demand for oysters grew, overharvesting led to a decrease in oyster populations which greatly hurt the ecosystem of New York City waters (Oysters are Food - Guided Reading, n.d.).
